Barky’s Diagonal Entry Model
A short-form guide to reading and trading Control Bar setups within the Complete DEM Suite.
Signal Line – EMA9 Structure – Continuation – Invalidation Cross
OVERVIEW
Control Bars
Barky’s Control Bars identify three-candle continuation and reversal patterns in alignment with EMA9 trend structure — plotting an orange signal line at the actionable level where a continuation attempt either confirms or fails.
Every Control Bar signal marks the moment a higher low or lower high has formed and the pattern is seeking continuation. The orange signal line is the actionable level — it can be traded direct on the timeframe observed, or used as context for a Diagonal Entry Model on the related lower timeframe. Combining with the lower timeframe DEM maximises precision and tightens risk. Whether price is contracted or expanded, the CB identifies where the next move initiates or fails.
TWO COMPONENTS
Orange Signal Line
A horizontal line marking the actionable entry level. Plots at the high of the control bar candle (bullish) or the low (bearish). This is where continuation is attempted — and where it fails when price sweeps and reverses.
Stop Loss Cross
Optional marker showing the invalidation level — the opposite side of the pattern where the setup is structurally broken. When price closes beyond the CB candle high or low, continuation has failed and a move in the opposite direction is initiated.
●
Outside bars — when a candle engulfs the entire prior bar, it is highlighted as an outside bar. This is additional context, and does not plot a signal line. An outside bar that resolves in the trend direction is a solid higher low or lower high after which price has to set up continuation.
TWO SCENARIOS
EMA9 close vs price extended
BREAK OUT TRADE
EMA9 actively pushing price
When the EMA9 is close and actively pushing price through a range, the signal line aligns with Barky’s BackTest entry concept. The Control Bar tells us that the EMA9 higher low has formed and is holding — price is positioned to push through the signal line and break out.
Wait for price to retrace the signal candle for a shallow pullback into the leading EMA9, then enter on the break.
SWEEP & REVERSE
Price extended from EMA9
When price is far from the EMA9, the signal line defines where continuation fails. Price sweeps the line, exhausts, and reverses — initiating a pullback toward the EMA9. This aligns with the ECD-RT and Reversal Trigger concepts.
Wait for price to sweep the signal line, then look for the reversal DEM on the lower timeframe. The signal line becomes resistance on longs, support on shorts.
TRADING THE SIGNAL LINE
Day Trades · H1 → M5
H1 SIGNALS / M5 RISK
01 – H1
CB Signal Fires on H1
Orange signal line plots. Note whether EMA9 is close (breakout) or price is extended (sweep/reverse).
—
02 – H1 Entry
Option A — trade direct on H1
Wait for price to backtest the EMA9, then enter as price breaks through the signal line, with stop at the invalidation cross. Valid when EMA9 structure is clear.
—
03 – H1 → M5
Zoom to M5 for DEM
Use the signal line as the HTF reference level. Find the DEM setup on M5 to tighten risk and improve entry.
—
04 – M5 REVERSAL
Reversal scenario — wait for sweep
If price is extended, wait for the signal line sweep then look for the reversal DEM on M5 back toward H1 EMA9.
Swing Trades · H4 → H1
H4 SIGNALS / M5 RISK
01 – H4
CB Signal Fires on H4
Orange signal line plots. Note whether EMA9 is close (breakout) or price is extended (sweep/reverse).
—
02 – H4 Entry
Option A — trade direct on H4
Wait for price to backtest the EMA9, then enter as price breaks through the signal line, with stop at the invalidation cross. Valid when EMA9 structure is clear.
—
03 – H4 → H1
Zoom to H1 for DEM
Use the signal line as the HTF reference level. Find the DEM setup on H1 to tighten risk and improve entry.
—
04 – H1 REVERSAL
Reversal scenario — wait for sweep
If price is extended, wait for the signal line sweep then look for the reversal DEM on H1 back toward H4 EMA9.
SIGNAL REFERENCE
↗
EMA9 must hold. Every Control Bar signal line represents the moment a continuation attempt is live and the EMA9 higher low or lower high has formed. The trade only has context while the EMA9 continues to hold. A close through the EMA9 invalidates the structure.
!
Reclaim needs a backtest. When a CB reclaims the EMA9 from below (bullish) or above (bearish), it must backtest the EMA9 and trigger through to confirm the reversal. A reclaim without a backtest is unconfirmed — treat it as a potential trap until the trigger fires.
◐
Extended price — caution. When the CB fires far from the EMA9, the signal line is more likely to define where continuation fails than where it continues. In this context the signal line is a reference for the reversal DEM, not a direct breakout entry.
✕
Invalidation. Continuation fails if the signal line is breach and price closes on the opposite side of the EMA9. Reversals confirm when a candle closes beyond the last CB candle open price. This initiates a break in the opposite direction — depending on EMA9 structure.
TIPS
●
The strongest CB setups occur after failed breakdowns and failed swings. Price will reclaim the EMA9, wick back to test it and break through, stopping out traders that got caught on the wrong side of price action.
●
CB + Continuation Gap = conviction. A CB firing and then immediately opening a continuation gap signals a strong breakout confirmation.
●
The HTF signal line gives the context for the lower timeframe DEM. When zooming from HTF to LTF, treat the CB signal line exactly as you would any higher timeframe level: if the DEM sets up into it, take the trade with conviction.
●
Flat EMA9/21 cloud = lower probability breakouts. When the fast EMA cloud is flat and contracted, focus on reversal signals only.
SETTINGS — CONTROL BAR & CONTINUATION SIGNALS GROUP
SHOW CONTROL BAR LABELS
Plots the CB text label above or below the signal candle in addition to the orange signal line.
SHOW STOP LOSS CROSSES
Toggles the red invalidation cross at the structural stop level. Useful for visual clarity on busy charts.
USE EMA TREND FILTER
When enabled, signals on the correct side of the EMA9, alerting only trend or reversal confirmation.
ZONE CONFLUENCE ONLY
Restricts CB signals to inside active Continuation Gap zones. Turn off EMA Trend Filter to increase signal frequency.
HIGHLIGHT CB CANDLES
Colours CB candles using the colours defined in settings. Disable to preserve default chart colours.
DELETE DRAWINGS AFTER 12 BARS
Controls how many bars the signal line and stop cross remain on chart before auto-deleting. Used to reduce chart clutter.
