Terminology

The following terminology and abbreviations are custom to the Barkworthy Notes and its published charts.

Timeframes

  • S15, S30 – Seconds charts;
  • M1, M3, M5, M10, M15, M30 – Minutes charts;
  • H1, H4 – Hourly charts;
  • D1, D10 – Daily charts;
  • W1, W3 – Weekly charts;
  • MO – Monthly charts.

Charting

Abbreviations in order of systematic appearance.

  • Trend Control – UTL/DTL, becomes the BoT when breached;
  • BoT – Break of Trend, price crossed the Trend Control diagonal, indicating that price will seek the EMA9;
  • Entry Control – New UTL/DTL after the EMA9 has been tested, becomes EMA9 BoT when breached;
  • EMA9 BoT – Break of the EMA9 Trend, telling us to look for a reversal entry;
  • Stop – Trade invalidates if breached. Stop loss orders can be placed 2 to 5 points away from this level;
  • RT – Reversal Trigger Entry;
  • Control Diagonal – A potential entry diagonal;
  • Entry Diagonal – Risk defined trade entry;
  • BT – BackTest Entry (forms after a ‘look above’ when price makes a higher low into EMA9 or the range);
  • TGT/DR – Target (for partials or scalps) and Diagonal Resistance;

DEM/DTF System

In alphabetic order.

  • CMod – Continuation Model;
  • DBF – Dual Break Fail – where the EMA50 Box becomes a Base;
  • DEM – Diagonal Entry Model;
  • DTF – Dynamic Trend Following;
  • Doji – Indecision candle (zoom in to find the contraction);
  • Engulfing Candle – A candle that broke the previous candle high AND low;
  • Evening Star – A bearish candle that indicates exhaustion;
  • HTF – Higher Timeframe;
  • Imbalance – Bounce or Pullback;
  • Inside Candle – A candle that did not move beyond the previous candle high or low;
  • LTF – Lower Timeframe;
  • Morning Star – A bullish candle that indicates exhaustion;
  • Outside Candle – A candle that broke the previous candle high OR low;
  • Pivot – Used to draw diagonals, a pivot marks a price point where price reversed and produced ‘outside candles’ into the opposite direction. Pivots are made by bounces and pullbacks.

Trend / EMA Boxes

In alphabetic order.

  • B/B Line – Bull/bear line, above is bullish, below is bearish;
  • Displacement – True swing, expansion and trending at degree (timeframe);
  • EOD – End of Day;
  • FBD – Failed Breakdown (RT);
  • FBO – Failed Breakout (RT);
  • FVG – Fair Value Gap ;
  • HH, HL – Higher High, Higher Low;
  • HOD – High of Day;
  • Judas Swing – A phoney, a rising or falling contraction, a fake swing, a B wave.
  • LL, LH – Lower Low, Lower High;
  • LOD – Low of Day;
  • OR – Opening Range;
  • OTE – The 0.50 to 0.618 FIB zone of strong demand and supply zones, typically marked with a green or a red bar;
  • Porcupine – a range with multiple big wicks on both sides.

Technical

  • M5+ is a bullish FVG on the 5 minute timeframe;
  • H1- is a bearish FVG on the hourly timeframe;
  • M10+, D1-, etc.
